Drive to Win: a project management business game for corporate teams

Drive to Win is a project management business game that SL PEOPLE EVENTS runs for corporate teams in Dubai. Participants live through the full lifecycle of a real project: developing the idea, preparing the documentation, handing the project on, building the product, refining someone else's work and finally putting the result to the test in a race. At every stage the project changes hands - exactly as it does in a company, where one department has the idea, another builds it and a third improves it. Whether the car reaches the finish line depends entirely on how clearly the first team wrote its brief.

Drive to Win

Every team gets the same box: a radio-controlled car chassis, templates and building materials. Every team invents its own racing name. And every team assumes the game is about who builds the fastest car.

It is not.

The first thing each team produces is not a car — it is a document. A full design package: the assembly diagram, the visual design, the technical specification, plus a written description of the obstacles they want to see on the track. Then the documentation is handed over, and someone else builds from it.

That is where the game actually starts. The team receiving your brief cannot ask you what you meant. They build what is written, find the gaps you did not notice, and make their own decisions where your document went silent. Then the project moves on again, to a third team, who reinforce and improve what the second one built. Meanwhile you are doing the same to somebody else's project.

At the end, everyone gets their own project back — and compares what they intended with what actually came out the other side of the chain.

Then, and only then, comes the race.

Missions

What your team takes back to work

Four things the game makes visible — the kind that are hard to explain in a training room and impossible to miss on the track.

Communication

A clear, physical understanding of how information disappears during a handover. Not as a theory about communication, but as a car that came out wrong because one line of the brief was missing.

Documentation

Practical skill in writing a brief someone else can actually deliver from. The lesson everybody leaves with: "obvious to me" and "clear to you" are two different things, and only one of them survives a handover.

Teamwork

The result depends on every link in the chain. A brilliant idea documented badly loses to an ordinary idea documented well - and the room works this out on its own, without anyone saying it from a stage.

Iterative improvement

The ability to look at somebody else's product, judge it quickly, decide what matters most and improve it under time pressure — with the deadline visible on the wall.

What we adapt for you

  • The debrief. The closing discussion can be built around your real handover points: the stages where your projects actually lose time and information.
  • The documentation standard. Teams can be asked to write their brief in your company's own template, which turns the game into a live test of a format your people use every day.
  • The scale. The number of teams, the length of the chain and the complexity of the track follow the size of the group and the time available.
  • The branding. The cars, the racing names and the track elements can carry your identity, and the finished cars can stay with you afterwards.

Tell us where your projects lose the most time and we will build the chain around exactly that.

FAQ

What is Drive to Win?

It's a project management business game for corporate teams in Dubai. Teams document a design, hand it over, build somebody else's project from the documentation alone, refine a third team's work and finish with a race - followed by a structured debrief on where the information was lost along the way.

Who is this business game for?

Project teams, cross-functional groups and any company where work passes between departments: product, delivery, engineering, marketing and operations. It is most useful where projects lose time and quality at the handover points rather than inside any single team.

Is it a team building activity or corporate training?

Both, and that is the point. It plays like a competition and debriefs like a workshop: the day ends with practical conclusions about documentation and handovers that people apply in their actual work.

Do participants need technical or engineering skills?

No. The car is assembled from a prepared kit with templates. What decides the outcome is how clearly a team writes, how carefully it reads and how it handles the gaps it finds in someone else's brief.

Where can it be run?

Indoors, in a venue with room for the teams to work at tables and for the obstacle course to be built. It works in a hotel conference hall, a ballroom or a large office space, and it runs comfortably all year round.

Can it be linked to our own processes?

Yes. The debrief can be built around your real handover points, and teams can be asked to write their briefs in your company's own documentation template.
