Puzzle Challenge: an indoor team game about building the bigger picture

Puzzle Challenge is an indoor team building programme that SL PEOPLE EVENTS runs for corporate teams in Dubai. It is built on the way a product actually gets made: clear roles, rapid iteration, constant communication and one shared vision. Teams assemble large-scale puzzles while the host keeps changing the conditions - unexpected mechanics, temporary restrictions, bonus missions - and the result is scored on speed, accuracy and the bonus points earned along the way. Each team builds one fragment of a larger composition or the entire puzzle.

Puzzle Challenge

Nothing large ever gets built by everyone doing the same thing at once. It gets built by people who know their role, who talk constantly, who fix things as they go and who all hold the same picture in their heads — even before that picture exists.

That is the whole idea of this game. Each team gets a large-scale puzzle, two minutes to plan, and a set of roles to divide between themselves:

  • Frame Scout — finds the corner and border pieces and sets up the framework everyone else will build inside.
  • Pattern Analyst — sorts by colour, texture, objects and visual patterns, so nobody wastes time searching.

and etc.

The roles are not fixed. Teams redistribute them as the picture develops, which is exactly what happens in real work and exactly where most teams discover how they actually operate under pressure.

The host starts changing the game. Unexpected mechanics, temporary restrictions, bonus missions — announced mid-flow, with no warning. The teams that keep their heads and adapt fastest pull ahead; the ones defending their original plan fall behind.

And there is one thing the teams do not know at the start: each of them is building a fragment of something larger. Only in the finale, when every table's work is connected, does the full picture appear.

Missions

Game mechanics and some missions

Some of these interrupt the assembly. Others are earned at stations run by our facilitators — every completed mission hands the team the puzzle pieces it is still missing.

Blind Build

One team member is blindfolded and becomes the only person allowed to touch the puzzle. Everyone else may guide them with words alone: move slightly to the right, rotate the piece ninety degrees, try the section near the top edge.

Hidden Code

Some pieces carry letters, symbols or fragments of a code on the reverse side. While the main assembly continues without pause, two or three people peel off to collect the clues, organise what they have and decode the message.

Audio Code

A series of short sounds, voices, music fragments and clues arriving from different speakers around the station. Individually they mean nothing. The team has to connect the information and work out the answer hidden inside the sequence.

UV finale

Elements painted in UV paint, lights down, torches out, the image glowing.

What we adapt for you

  • The picture itself. The final image is yours: your visual, your product, your campaign — the thing the whole room spends the session assembling.
  • The final asset pack. The elements released in the closing stage can carry your branding, icons and details.
  • The hidden message. It can be your slogan, the theme of the event or the announcement you are making that day.
  • Hidden Easter eggs. Selected elements are painted in UV. At the finale the lights go down and a whole hidden layer appears under UV light.
  • Live Team Cloud. A QR code is built into the completed puzzle. Participants scan it and submit one word describing the team, the day or the energy in the room, and the answers appear live on screen as a word cloud that becomes part of the final visual.
  • Player Mark. Every participant leaves a fingerprint or a signature in a dedicated frame around the finished artwork — so the thing on the wall afterwards has everyone on it.

Tell us what the event has to achieve and we will build the game around it.
